IAN GUIDELINES FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF COMMON NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS

As we are all aware many of the common neurological disorders - Epilepsy, Stroke, Headache, Parkinson’s disease, Neuroinfections, etc are necessarily treated by primary care physicians in view of enormous shortage of neurologists in our country. I believe the care by the primary physicians can be improved substantially if only certain guidelines are formulated.

In this regard the Indian Epilepsy Society has released a book containing guidelines for the management of epilepsy in India which will go a long way in improving epilepsy care through primary care physicians. This book was released in the recent ECON 2008 conference and is also available on the website: www.epilepsyindia.org

It would be a very good idea if IAN can formulate guidelines to treat some common neurological conditions, something similar to AAN guidelines. This was put forth to the Executive Committee members of IAN who overwhelmingly endorsed the idea. Accordingly the following members are requested to be the conveners for each topic.
