Minutes of 2nd Meeting of Advocacy subsection of the Indian Academy of Neurology held on 11th September, 1700-1800 hrs, Manappuram hall, Kochi during the 17th Annual Conference of Indian Academy of Neurology. |

The members took stock of the activities/achievements of the subsection members so far. Future plans were also discussed: |

At present we have four life members of the advocacy subsection of Indian Academy of Neurology. This number is likely to increase to 10 in the year 2009-2010.

Dr M.M.Mehndiratta, convenor of advocacy subsection welcomed the members and reported the successful conduct and organization of an Advocacy workshop conducted in Cairns, Australia during the 6th Asian Pacific Stroke Association. The workshop was attended by 30 participants. The faculty who participated in this workshop were Dr.M.M.Mehndiratta (India), Dr. Johnny Lokin (Philippines) and Dr. Tissa Wijeratne. The delegates were stroke experts, patients and stroke nurses. The delegates laid down their Action plans and went very satisfied after the workshop.

It was heartening to note that Dr. M.M. Mehndiratta has been nominated as Co-chair of Advocacy Task Force of World Federation of Neurology. An advocacy workshop has also been planned during the 19th World Congress of Neurology at Bangkok on 29th October 2009.

Dr M.M.Mehndiratta has written and encouraged all members to work towards increasing the membership of the Advocacy subsection. |

Dr M.M.Mehndiratta suggested that elections should be held to select office bearers for the Subsection.
|

|
Dr Apoorva Pauranik communicated the success of the 4th year of NeuroQuiz being organized by him for undergraduate and postgraduate students of MP.

|
Dr Apoorva Pauranik has proposed carrying the advocacy message to the forthcoming 58thNSI meeting at Lucknow: inserting advocacy related reading material in the delegate bags and also organizing a scientific session based on advocacy.
|
|
| |
|
Dr Apoorva Pauranik also expressed an interest in working towards having Epilepsy related disability being recognized and approved for compensation by the Government.
|
|

|
Dr. Prithika Chary, work on Epilepsy and training of teachers has made tremendous impact. She has planned to celebrate National Epilepsy Day in a big way. Report to be submitted.

|
Dr. Lakshmi Narsimhan advocacy work on women with epilepsy and vocational training was placed on record.
|
|
| |
|
Dr. Mamta Bhushan has done good work to spread Epilepsy awareness through the Lifeline Express was noted |
|
| |
|
Mamta was congratulated on being selected as Advisor for the forthcoming PALF meeting and also on being nominated Co-Advocate of the year for2009.
|

|
